Spoems 2007 . This is an interactive installation based on a series of poems written by Esslinger from email spam that she collected during the spring of 2006. Although spamming tactics and syntax change frequently, during this period the words were disconnected yet related lists, lacking the sinews that bind traditional narratives.  With as little manipulation as possible she has woven new narratives, leaving in the absurd jumps in subject and embracing odd phrasing.  SPoems’s visual projection presents original spam content, gathered and arranged.  The audio portion features actors reading the poems.  Walking across the projection, viewers control the speed of the voice and image.

Readers: Jon Tazewell, Liesel Schmidt, Ted Hornick , Claudia Esslinger

SPOEM SAMPLE

1.

The custom-built coverage

was in consultation with the courts

and this cumulous was punishable by a cold sore

in the preeminence of a dark chin upgrade.

Cooking hash browns in a celery circle

the smoky concubine initiated a comradery of gluttony

only approachable through a classical math construct.

This elder colleague crawled into her craft

without confederation, and consequently

is cut from the constituency.

2.

This is the tonsil poem of a carjacker,

the kissing crust of rod resin in opal clover.

It is centered in the gall passage between

the gamma function and the front two-teeth

in a reddish limestone well.

Its seedless comfort is triangulated

with its investment.

3.

The alpine race championed

a bright-headed non-condensing engine

which the black-hilted bastard gandered at mindlessly.

His yellow legs sported straw bales

and his neo-scholasticism was a franchise

of the equine movement.
